We Support Laurena McCarthy.
Comedy Night and A Screening of the Hope on the Horizon Documentary
The community is invited for an evening to honor Laurena McCarthy, a remarkable teacher, mentor and mother who has dedicated her life to others. On June 15, we are giving back to support Laurena as she courageously battles ALS. Join us for an evening of entertainment, celebration and inspiration – plus light fare by local restaurants, cash bar with special cocktails, silent auction and a chance to win amazing prizes.
The evening will feature a show by Dave Reilly, Comedian and Master Improv, who has appeared on national and cable TV, MTV, and on stage from coast to coast. Join us to relax, laugh and raise money for an excellent cause.
Laurena was diagnosed with ALS in the summer of 2017, and the disease has progressed rapidly. Also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS is a devastating motor neuron disease of which there is currently no cure.
A resident of Newtown, Laurena touched many lives through her 20+ years as an elementary school teacher in Danbury. During summer breaks, she founded and ran multiple summer camps including a farm camp for underprivileged inner-city children and a science camp in New Milford. Laurena’s passion has always been to nurture a child’s natural curiosities and encourage them to believe in themselves regardless of their circumstances, just as she believed in them.
This fundraiser will help lift the crushing financial burden of ALS off Laurena’s family. The proceeds from the evening will go towards the debt they are incurring for the costly home renovations that allow Laurena to remain in her home, a wheelchair van, plus other medical equipment and services not covered by insurance. Every dollar makes a difference.
Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the door, which includes food and entertainment. Additional donations are gratefully accepted. We are also seeking donations for raffle prizes and the silent auction. Please contact email@example.com for more information.
On behalf of Laurena and her family, thank you for supporting and honoring her.
